0762 The quiet moments together in the morning
I’m going to be honest. This is already getting hard. Maybe it’s because I go non-stop from the moment I get up until I’m able to sit down for a little after dinner. We acquired a new company at work and have been spending this week playing catch up on my email inbox which I didn’t touch at all last week. So my gifts at some moments feel trivial, feel hard to come by. But I’ve learned over the course of the last couple years of counting my 1000 Gifts that even trivial things are gifts.

So grateful that you are counting along side me this month.
Thank you is two words that are often spoken in haste. We mutter them beneath our breath. We say them out of habit. We can easily tell a sincere thank you from one spoken methodically. What a revolution would begin if we spoke our all gratitude with sincerity.

Share how you’re counting today…
If I recall correctly, these first few days are easy to find the gratitude in everyday. It’s like a new toy that we love to play with but come a few weeks of ownership we wonder why we committed to this. We wonder if we really knew what finding gratitude and grace in the midst of our everyday-ness would entail.
It’s going to happen. For me last year I mourned the death of friends of ours daughter. I got sick (I never get sick). I stressed over funding a mission trip to Moldova. Yet I recall how remembering to live thankful kept me grounded.

I would be lying if I said my November has started off well. As I write this it is officially still October 31st and parts of me are heavy. I’ve chosen to walk this path of gratitude, and I learned last year that, that includes finding grace in the heavy & hard days.

My October has been filled to overfull limits with stress. And I’m not seeing any relief once the month dawns into November.
In 2012, during the month of November I did 30 Thankful Days. It ended up being a difficult month for me, focusing on being thankful was beneficial. I’ve decided to carry on this tradition in 2013. Beginning November first I will be sharing gifts each day.
I would love for you to join me.

I am getting ready to plunge into a maddening week at work. Plus my personal life doesn’t allow for lazy evenings this week. Amid my usual week night responsibilities of making dinner, plus my endeavors to write every night, I also have to make cupcakes for a bake sale at work, think through what I’m taking on vacation with me the end of next week. Plus that elusive thing they call sleep.
So even in the midst of this hectic week, I will strive for at least a few minutes of breathing and self care. Because it is true, all we do have is the now. I can live in each moment or I can let it fly by me so fast that when there does finally come time to breathe I’ve forgotten how to do so.
In less than two weeks I will be with women of my sister tribe. I am looking forward with great anticipation to the time spent with them. To receive what they so often pour into my life. This will be a retreat in so many ways.
